The Medina County Skyhawks were awarded three sets of simulator controls (yokes, throttle controls and rudder pedals), thanks to a grant application to the AFA by our squadron AEO, Capt. Donald Thomas. To complete the systems, our squadron performed fundraisers to get the funds to purchase three desktop computers, monitors, and speaker systems.
The simulators were unveiled at our annual squadron holiday party on Sunday, December 20. They were definitely a big hit, with a line of cadets wanting to try their hand at flying different airplanes. The simulators are running Microsoft Flight Simulator X on Windows 7 professional PCs. They will be used during aerospace education meetings to teach the forces of flight, and also for some fun dogfighting challenges between cadets and senior members.
Medina Skyhawk senior members are planning on building a portable simulator cockpit to surround one of the simulators for use at external aerospace education events and recruiting opportunities.
